6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Climb Rongai Route
The 6 Days Rongai Route is a classic and scenic approach to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, providing a quieter and more remote experience compared to other routes. Starting from the northern side near the Kenyan border, the Rongai Route offers breathtaking views of the plains and the rugged wilderness surrounding the mountain. The route is less crowded and features diverse landscapes, including forests, moorlands, and alpine deserts.
The 6-Day Rongai Route is designed for trekkers who prefer a more gradual ascent to allow for better acclimatization while reaching the summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) on the sixth day. This route is considered one of the more beginner-friendly options for climbers who want to experience Kilimanjaro with fewer crowds.

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guide for a pre-climb briefing, gear check, and discussion of the trek details. Spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the climb.
After breakfast, drive to Rongai Gate for registration. Begin your trek through the lush rainforest, spotting wildlife such as monkeys and birds. The trek to Simba Camp (2,600 m) is an easy walk, providing a smooth introduction to the mountain.
Continue your ascent through the forest, and as you gain elevation, enjoy views of the Kenyan plains and the northern icefields of Kilimanjaro. You’ll reach Second Cave Camp (3,450 m), which offers excellent views of the mountain’s higher slopes and the surrounding valleys.
Trek across the moorland and alpine desert as you ascend to Kikelewa Camp (3,600 m). The landscape changes dramatically as you approach higher altitudes, with stunning views of the peak of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding terrain.
Ascend towards Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330 m), located beneath the impressive Mawenzi Peak. This day offers a great opportunity for acclimatization as the altitude begins to increase. Enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain terrain and the unique environment of the high-altitude desert.
Continue your trek to Kibo Camp (4,700 m), located in the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. This section is more barren, with a vast alpine desert environment. Kibo Camp is the final rest stop before the summit attempt, so prepare for the challenging summit push later that night.
Begin your summit attempt around midnight. The climb is tough, and you will ascend through the dark, heading toward Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Reach the summit at sunrise and enjoy panoramic views before descending back to Kibo Camp for a rest. Continue the descent to Mweka Camp (3,100 m) to spend the night.
Complete your descent to Mweka Gate (1,640 m) where you will receive your summit certificate for reaching Uhuru Peak. From there, you will be transferred back to Moshi to relax or depart for onward travel.
