Day by day
- Rongai Gate to Simba Camp — Register at Rongai Gate and trek through rainforest to Simba Camp (2,600m), with opportunities to see wildlife.
- Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp — Ascend gradually to Second Cave Camp (3,450m) with views of the Kenyan plains and northern icefields.
- Second Cave to Kikelewa Camp — Cross moorland and alpine desert to Kikelewa Camp (3,600m) with expansive summit views.
- Kikelewa to Mawenzi Tarn Camp — Ascend to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m) beneath Mawenzi Peak and rest for acclimatisation.
- Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Camp — Cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo and reach Kibo Camp (4,700m) before summit night.
- Uhuru Peak and descent to Mweka Camp — Start around midnight, reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) at sunrise and descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m).
- Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate — Finish the descent, receive your summit certificate and transfer to Moshi for rest or onward travel.
