The brochure describes Lemosho as a scenic, less crowded eight-day route with ample acclimatisation across rainforest, heathland and the Shira Plateau.
Day by day
- Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp — Register at Londorossi Gate (2,100m), continue to the trailhead and trek through rainforest for three to four hours to Big Tree Camp (2,800m).
- Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp — Leave the rainforest for heath and moorland, cross streams and reach Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) after five to six hours.
- Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp — Cross the Shira Plateau for five to six hours with views of Kilimanjaro before reaching Shira 2 Camp (3,850m).
- Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower — Ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m) for acclimatisation and lunch, then descend to Barranco Camp (3,900m) over seven to eight hours.
- Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp — Scramble up the Barranco Wall and follow ridges and valleys for four to five hours to Karanga Camp (4,035m).
- Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp — Trek for three to four hours through alpine desert to Barafu Camp (4,640m), then eat early and rest.
- Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp — Begin at midnight, reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) after seven to eight hours and descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m).
- Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Moshi — Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m), collect your certificate and transfer to Moshi.
